Graduate Council meetings are held monthly, August through May, in Mason Hall Room D5, from 1:30-3:00. See schedule for exact dates. All meetings are open to the general George Mason University community.

I. Call to order

    Peter Stearns called the meeting to order at 1:30 p.m.

    Minutes of the March 26th, 2003 meeting were approved as written.

    Graduate Student Orientation and Emergency Planning:
    Peter Stearns suggested that essential information about GMU's emergency planning be included in Graduate Student Orientations. Peter will compose a list of suggested topics/issues for inclusion in orientations which will be distributed to Graduate Council members. Julia Findlay shared a hard copy of a draft letter for international graduate students. It will be distributed to members.

VI. Discussion Items

    Draft of Graduate Assistantship offer letter:
    Chris Stromme will combine the comments from various faculty and redistribute the letter electronically. The plan is to have the letter finalized by May 1st for use with next year's students.
    Graduate Student Exit Survey Report:
    Karen Gentemann will be invited to attend the May meeting to discuss this report.
