GRADUATE COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES
for the
JANUARY, 2005
Meeting


Graduate Council meetings are held monthly, August through May, in Mason Hall Room D5, from 1:30-3:00. See schedule for exact dates. All meetings are open to the general George Mason University community.


Members attending: Peter Stearns (Chair), Linda Schwartzstein (Provost Office), Peter Becker (SCS), Meg Brindle (CVPa), Phillip Buchanan (SOM), Dee Holisky (CAS), Joan Isenberg (CEHD), Stephen Nash (IT&E), Teresa Panniers (CNHS), Jerome Short (CAS), Steve White (CEHD).

Special Attendee: Dr. Claudio Cioffi, Director, Computational Social Sciences, Center for Social Complexity.

I. Call to order

    Provost Stearns called the meeting to order at 1:35 p.m.

II. Approval of December Minutes

    Minutes of the December 15, 2004 meeting were approved as written.

IV. Discussion Items

    Provost Stearns asked Council members if there are specific issues they would like to address during the semester. Dr. Nash requested an update on the contract for transcript evaluation for international credentials. Linda Schwartzstein said she would check with Andrew Flagel, Dean of Admissions and report back to the Council.

    Dee Holisky suggested the Council discuss the number of credits that extended studies students are allowed to register for at the graduate level. The discussion should include both policy and the way Banner is set up to allow students to take credits.

    Phillip Buchanan stated that the Council had previously agreed to look at the equivalence of a foreign three-year Baccalaureate.
