Q: There is a lot of discussion about having to get permission to use various materials. Isn't all information on the Web in the public domain, so that I can use it freely?
A: Materials on the internet are intellectual property, just as a book in the library is. When you use it, you need to provide a proper citation. To reproduce this material for your teaching, you should seek permission from the author (the Copyright Office can help).
