A case study in dynamic modeling

"Vertical Motion of an Automobile"

Description
In order to limit the complexity of the case study some features are omitted. Our concern in this case study is the force on the driver when the vehicle is traveling over a rough road. Some of the key characteristics of the system are represented in Figure 1 (see below), by one mass representing the chassis, one spring, and one dashpot, representing front shock absorber. We assume that the vehicle is traveling at a constant speed and that the horizontal movement of the chassis does not concern us. For Figure 1, energy can be stored in the mass and the spring.
