Professor Philip Auerswald will participate in a roundtable discussion concerning Recommendations: Policies and Practices that Support Risk Intelligence and Resilience at the Risk Intelligence and Resilience Workshop organized by the Council on Competitiveness.  The workshop will be held in Wilmington, Delaware on Oct. 30-31. Auerswald’s “thought-leadership” paper extends his work on energy and infrastructure to the area of coporate and national resilience.

The VI annual session of the World Public Forum will be held on the Greek Island of Rhodes. The main topic for discussion is “The dialogue community as a model of contemporary development”. School of Public Policy Professor Jack Goldstone will be a panelist, along with Jacques Sapir (Professor of Economics with the Higher Education School, France),  Lee Seen (Professor, Shanghai University, PRC), Yogesh Tyagi (Indian Professor of Law), among others. The forum involves more than 400 politicians, public dignitaries, journalists, political scientists, and representatives of clerical circles, from numerous countries.

PhD student Emilia Istrate invited to participate in Young Regional Scientist Round Table
PhD student Emilia Istrate was invited to participate in a Young Regional Scientist Round Table at the 2008 European Regional Science Conference in Liverpool, UK. The panel discussion was aimed at identifying current major issues and formulating future research agendas in regional science, from the viewpoint of young researchers. Ms. Istrate was the only student from an American university invited to participate in the panel.

Professor Mark J. Rozell and Professor Jeremy Mayer are co-editors of Media Power, Media Politics (second edition, Rowman & Littlefield

Professor Thatchenkery and PWC Fire Dept. apply Appreciative Intelligence-based methodology for improvements

For the past few years, Professor Thatchenkery and Prince William County Fire and Rescue Chief Kevin McGee have worked closely using Appreciative Intelligence-based methodology to implement organizational change for the PWC Fire and Rescue Dept. in one of the largest counties in the national capital region. Thatchenkery and McGee's presentation, at the Academy of Management meeting  in Anaheim, Ca., highlighted the power of positive methodologies to build on the core competencies of local governments in challenging times.
