School of Public Policy, Contributing to a Livable World

Janine Wedel
Professor

The symbiosis of economies and culture is a central theme at the George Mason School of Public Policy. Professor Janine Wedel, a four-time Fulbright fellow, helps lead classroom studies and research projects on the subject, leveraging her skills as a trained anthropologist to bring expert perspective on issues such as corruption, governance, and the role of foreign aid in developing nations, especially in Eastern Europe.

"As an anthropologist, I'm attracted to the School of Public Policy's interdisciplinary approach and its mix of domestic and international research,'' Wedel says.

Wedel says she is especially impressed by the School's unique focus on interactions among policy, economics, societal, cultural, and technological processes. She says its location in the Washington, D.C. area gives students and faculty access to cutting edge theories and a vast array of resources to research them, including the rest of George Mason University, the Library of Congress and National Archives, and a plethora of government agencies, private contractors, non-governmental organizations, think-tanks, and embassies.
