Sustainable Development Policies in the EU

Sustainable development is a crosscutting priority of the European Union with the global aim of helping “to consolidate the prosperity of the Union and of its citizens without risking the quality of life of future generation…. It is relevant to all Commission’s strategic objectives and policies, including external relations” (2002 Work Programme of the European Commission). The issues involved are complex and interrelated: economic, social and environmental.

 

Sessions will cover:

Ø      Regional policy

Ø      Economic affairs

Ø      Social affairs

Ø      Transport and energy

Ø      Trade

Ø      Developing countries

Ø      Comparison EU/US relevant policies

 

 

Evaluation of the students will based on two papers (mid- and end of semester) and class participation.
