Coming from a single parent home, the EIP filled that stability (academically and personally) that I was lacking and much needed as a 15-year old and throughout high school, and consequently, contributed to me being able to attend college, complete a degree and achieve my dreams as a career professional.

EIP made it easy to go to college . . .College then broadened my exposure to things in life, and took me in a direction that I might not have gone in. I was inspired to travel around the world for four years and then become a writer.

EIP was more than just an academic enrichment program. For my sisters and me, it was a second family. Without EIP, I would not be where I am today . . . a successful registered nurse, and I absolutely love it!

I think there is something more important than believing: Action! The world is full of dreamers; there aren't enough who will move ahead and begin to take concrete steps to actualize their vision. The Early Identification Program assisted in making my forbidden dream come true! Doris Figueroa

EIP was the focus needed as I was stumbling through high school. The program bridged the gap into universities and gave me insight to many career possibilities as there were none in the eyes of my high school counselor.

The program allowed me to see the endless possibilities life has to offer. Before EIP I had never set foot on a college campus or contemplated the steps necessary to attend college. After completing the program, I gained invaluable insights on the college preparation process; I made lifelong friends; and my mind flourished.

From summers of growth and learning to scholarship opportunities to years of professionalism, I take from EIP encouragement, strength, a network of peers, skills for the future, and positive stories of triumph and a "YOU CAN DO IT!" attitude for the next generation of youth and others. EIP is not just a program, but an irreplaceable family - one I will never forget.

EIP was very beneficial to me since I could see that there was a payoff to working hard in high school and that a college degree was something attainable. During the summer sessions, I gained more confidence in my abilities, . . . felt highly motivated and empowered.

EIP encouraged me to aim high and challenged me along the way. They never let me give up and provided me a safe environment where I could grow as an individual. Thanks to the Early Identification Program, I am now in a position where I can make a difference in my community.

EIP gave me the confidence and support I needed to know that I could be a great student. I wouldn't be as well rounded as I am today, if it were not for EIP's many summer activities, programs and workshops.

Regardless of where I was born and how poor my family was, the Early Identification Program gave me hope that a college education was attainable. The EIP offers young students, in similar situations, an equal opportunity for success in and out of the classroom, and an avenue for a better future. One can only describe this program as a catalyst for aspirations in higher learning.

EIP made my high school years comfortable, but most importantly, it made my college transition stress free. It gave me a glimpse of a college student's life before graduating from high school

Prior to the Early Identification Program my fingers were mainly used to throw up gang signs, but now they gracefully flow over mathematical equations involved with my graduate research. One doesn't have to look far to see what my life may have been like if I had not been involved with the program: "Slain Teen Had Gang Ties," The Washington Post, B1, March 25, 1997. Rest in peace Vu.

The EIP program instilled in me the confidence that I can do anything I set my mind to. It provided the tools required to be successful in all facets of life. I have EIP to thank for the successes I have enjoyed thus far in my career and personal life.

My fondest memory of EIP was my first ever musical performance at the end of the summer talent show. It was in Harris Theatre, and the song was named "aint that some stuuuuuuuuuuff!!" stated as emphatically as it is written here, but I truly thank EIP for giving me that platform to open up myself as an artist as I now am pursuing a career in rap and reggae under the alias "D'Liverence." Look out for me, and thanks EIP.

A caterpillar forms a cocoon as a safe place for transforming into a butterfly. As an eighth grader, I was a caterpillar trying to blend with the surrounding foliage (my peers). Being accepted to EIP was a defining moment in my life. EIP was my cocoon, my safe place to be nurtured, empowered, and encouraged. After my transformation, I emerged from the program a butterfly that was confident in my academic ability and prepared to pursue my goals.

When I think of EIP, I think of the teachers, mentors, and our EIP mother, Mrs. Cadenas. They are the ones who gave us the constant reminder to strive for excellence through the most challenging and self-evolving years of our life. Their words and inspiration are what helped me appreciate the opportunities that came in my direction. Because of EIP, I stepped forward to be successful in not only my academic life, but my personal life as well.

EIP has opened the doors to a better future in my college career. Thanks to the encouragement I got from all the EIP staff and tutors, I gave it my best in high school, took the most challenging classes, and got a full scholarship at Mason. EIP was there for me. . . Once a part of EIP, always a part of EIP.

Whether helping those in need, to caring about others, and overall having confidence in myself, the Early Identification Program has enhanced what was already instilled in me: integrity, determination, and self-reflection. And for this I will always be grateful and assured.
