Student Media Internship Listings

The Office of Student Media is a terrific source for internships on campus. Student Media interns put their skills to good use, gaining phenomenal experience and an excellent résumé reference. Student Media interns are ready--for grad school, for great careers, for the high demand for communication skills.

To see how you can get involved with a particular Student Media organization, click on its listing in Media Groups or Literary Publications in the left sidebar.

To apply, simply fill out the application, save it to your desktop, and email it to stumedia@gmu.edu.  The internship coordinator will respond within three business days to your application, or you may call Reba Elliott at 703.993.3560 with questions.

The American Prospect: Editorial Internship

The American Prospect is a news publication with a distribution list of 50,000 subscribers. The online editorial intern will assist with fact checking, manuscript review, research, and administrative tasks, and participate in brown-bag lunches with guest speakers. Capital Semester: Political Journalism Intern

Through Capital Semester, a competitive internship with a transferable course component at Georgetown University, students intern in a Washington, D.C. media organization. Interns assist in covering Congress, drafting, editing, and producing news stories, research, press releases, and media relations. For more information, please visit the Capital Semester website.

Dakshina/Daniel Phoenix Singh & Company: Production Intern

Dakshina/Daniel Phoenix Singh & Company promotes the communicative and intercultural aspects of dance. The intern will assist in stage production, including sound, lighting, scenery, and special effects, as well as assuming some management responsibilities. United Nations High Commission for Refugees: Media Relations Intern

The United Nations High Commission for Refugees is the chief aid body for 18 million refugees. The intern will assist in monitoring media outlets and distributing key articles to UNHC personnel, responding to queries from the media and the general public, educational outreach, and administrative tasks. USA Football: Communications Internship

Endowed by the NFL and NFLPA in 2002, USA Football leads the development of youth, high school, and international amateur football. The intern contribute to organizational media relations strategies, attends and participates in internal meetings and brainstorming sessions as directed, identify potential news story ideas relevant to USA Football programs and initiatives, pitch story ideas to media, primarily those reporting on sports, parenting, and health, write bylined articles in a nationally-distributed magazine dedicated to grassroots football, draft basic public relations materials including news releases, media alerts, fact sheets, status reports, and other materials as directed,  pitch USA Football spokespeople as guests for radio programs, monitor news items, particularly those pertaining to youth and high school football, assist with the development and updating of media lists. Washington Internship Institute: Intern

Washington Internship Institute places interns with organizations in the private, nonprofit, and public sectors in Washington, D.C. Internship placements include Amnesty International, the State Department, the Embassy of France, and the Smithsonian Institution, among many others. Media and communications internships are available. The intern assists in a broad range of duties, depending on his or her placement, experience, and interests. The Washington Center places interns with organizations in Washington, D.C. The application process is competitive. The intern assists in a broad range of duties, depending on his or her placement, experience, and interests. Media and communications internships are available.
