Lead Teacher 3’s Classroom
The George Mason University, Child Development Center is seeking a caring, loving Lead Teacher in the 3’s classroom for their preschool/day care program.
The Lead Teacher supervises at least one Assistant Teacher and three to five Teacher’s Aides and/or Work-Study students; the Lead Teacher may also supervise student volunteers.
Required Qualifications:
– Bachelor’s degree in early childhood development/education or an appropriate field;
– Demonstrated classroom experience (minimum one to three years preferred);
– Maintains all standards of training and education as required by Virginia Department of Social Services, Division of Licensing Programs;
– Effective communication and supervisory skills are necessary;
– A successful candidate must pass a criminal record clearance before employment; and
– CPR, first aid and medical administration certification are required, but may be completed after employment.
Duties:
– In conjunction with the Director, establishes activity schedules or lesson plans and conducts daily classroom sessions;
– Assumes responsibility for supervision of field trips or off-grounds activities;
– Keeps daily attendance records;
– Observes and documents behavior;
– Makes assessment of illness symptoms, administers first aid if necessary;
– Prepares classrooms for the day’s activities by following established lesson plans. Ensures that all necessary supplies are available for distribution, and maintains an inventory of classroom supplies. Responsible for the upkeep of his/her classroom, and all supplies and equipment belonging to the center;
– Arranges parent/teacher conferences as required to discuss progress reports, observed behavior and/or development, and provide recommendations;
– Provides daily direction to subordinate staff, identifies training needs, and initiates training activities;
– Attends all required staff meetings, and center functions including weekends and nighttime activities as needed. Attends staff development activities. Participates in all official functions of the Child Development Center; and
– Performs other duties as necessary under the direction of the Director.

The George Mason University, Child Development Center invites applications for an Assistant Teacher position. The Assistant Teacher assists the classroom's Lead Teacher in planning and implementing a developmental and safe environment for children. When needed, the Assistant Teacher acts as Lead Teacher for the classroom.
Required Qualifications:
– Must be at least 21 years of age;
– High school graduate (or equivalent) with demonstrated early childhood experience;
– First Aid, CPR and MAT (Medication Administration Training) is required but may be obtained during employment; and
– Maintain training hours per Virginia licensing requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
– Three years of demonstrated early childhood experience;
– CDA (Child Development Associate) credential, or an associate or bachelor's degree in early childhood development or a related field; and
– Two years of college concentrating in early childhood education, child development, or a closely related field combined with demonstrated experience in early childhood.
Duties:
– Participates with the Lead Teacher in preparing curriculum plans and maintaining a safe classroom;
– Keeps detailed records of schedules noting developmental milestones of the children;
– Carries out housekeeping standards through maintaining a neat, attractive, clean, orderly environment including shelves, closets and cubbies;
– Participates in center staff meetings as required; and
– Participates in center fundraising activities including after-hours and/or on weekends. Jump to job posting
