Greece: Multicultural Perspectives in Health Psychology

DESCRIPTION

This two week intensive course is a collaborative effort on the part of the Graduate School of Education, the Department of Psychology at George Mason University and the Hellenic Institute of Psychology and Health, Thessaloniki, Greece. Students will have a truly unique opportunity to interact with Greek University students and faculty as they explore issues related to health psychology in a multicultural setting. The 3-credit special topics course is open to both undergraduate and graduate students, and of particular interest to education and psychology students. It will identify those components which make up multidimensional definitions of health psychology; compare the various psychosocial and behavioral theories, health of individual cultural differences in lifestyle, customs, perception of illness and the use of health services; discuss ways of promoting awareness and understanding of multicultural factors in health psychology.

In addition to classes, students will also have the opportunity to participate in guided tours and cultural excursions to Thessaloniki, Gherkin Beach, Petrolia, Athens and even take a four-day, all inclusive cruise to the Greek Isles.

ELIGIBILITY

The program is open to Mason students, non Mason-students, staff, faculty, alumni and the general public. To obtain credit for this program students need at least a 2.25 GPA.

Program Fee: Approx. $3,875 ($3,925 for non Mason students) (minimum 8 participants)

Group airfare is available with the Faculty Director for interested students with Greek Airline. This airfare will not be included in the program fee.

Airfare is with Olympic airlines departing from New York JFK. Please note that this airfare does not include the Washington-New York portion of the trip.
