EXCHANGE STUDENT BROCHURE
FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences is the perfect place for students who want hands on experience in the research center of Germany, and is a quick train ride away from Belgium and Netherlands.
Students interested in the applied sciences and who want to participate in cutting edge research will be at home at the FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences. Universities of applied sciences are unique to Germany, but have grown in popularity throughout the world. FH Aachen is based on a culture of academic research. Exchange students will study at the Jülich Campus, which is a city in Germany designed around research. The Jülich Research Center has collaborative partnerships with many top-class research institutes based in Jülich and is one of the largest research institutions in Europe.
The exchange program at FH Aachen is a perfect blend of theory and practice where students in the applied sciences will be able to put their knowledge and skills to use and receive hands-on experience. Courses are offered in both English and German, however advanced courses are only offered in German. Students who desire to take advanced courses will need to demonstrate a fluency in German when they apply. FH Aachen also provides an intensive German language program for students seeking to improve their language skills while abroad. Class sizes are kept small (between 15-30 students) and students are able to work closely with other students and their professors.

Campus building in Jülich
When you arrive in Jülich you’ll meet with the international office to arrange your housing, but you’ll want to arrange temporary accommodations at a local hotel or hostel prior to arrival. The city of Jülich has a large population, yet has the feel of a small town. The history of the city dates back over two-thousand years and is full of history, though recent renovations of the city center give the city a modern feel. Exchange students receive a “semester ticket,” which allows you access to local transportation. Students are free to explore the city and see the famous Witches Tower and Castle Square, the 16th Century Citadel, the Brückenkopf Fortress and the Aachen Gate. There are also frequent concerts and theater exhibitions for students to enjoy.
