This program is open to all George Mason University undergraduate and graduate students.
Credits
Undergraduate: Earn 6 undergraduate transfer credits offered in a variety of disciplines, including History, Art History, Anthropology, Sociology and English.
Graduate: Earn 6 graduate transfer credits offered in a variety of disciplines, including HIstory, Art History, Anthropology, Sociology and English.

Saturday Market in Galway
Study abroad this summer in Galway, located just minutes from the Irish coast!
This program offers students the opportunity to study in Galway, the cultural capital of Ireland! Students will participate in a four-week Irish Studies Program at the National University of Ireland, Galway where they'll be able to choose two modules from a range of subjects:
- Negotiating Identity: Irish Traditional Music and Dance
- Representing Ireland: Literature and Film
- The Archaeological Heritage of Ireland
- Gaelic Culture and Literature
- Irish History
- Irish Society
- Introduction to Irish Art
- Creative Writing: Poetry and Fiction

Some of the courses listed above include field study, such as visits to archeological sites of interest, theatre performances, and film screenings. Introductory Irish language classes are also available for interested students. The program also includes excursions to the Arran Islands (pictured below), Dingle, and tickets to the famous Galway Theatre Arts Festival
While in Galway, students have the option of staying with an Irish family or staying in the Gort na Coiribe student residence.
Students staying in Gort na Coiribe will have a single room in a multi-bedroom, fully furnished apartment, which includes a living room and a kitchen facilities. Wireless internet is also available.

You should plan to leave the United States at least one day prior to the program start date to arrive in Galway, Ireland for the first day of the program. You can schedule your return to the United States from Galway, Ireland for the last day of the program or choose to travel independently.
Do not purchase international airfare until you are advised by your Program Officer.

The Center for Global Education Program Fee includes:
- Tuition
- Housing

- Pre-departure orientation
- Emergency medical insurance, including medical evacuation and repatriation
Scholarships are available to George Mason students. George Mason students can click here to download the CGE Global Perspectives scholarship application. Mason students may also use financial aid to cover a program's cost. Discuss this with your financial aid counselor early in your study abroad planning process. If you are not a George Mason University student, check with your study abroad office or office of financial aid to learn more about how to cover the cost of your study abroad.
One Monroe "Chip" Whitton Scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate student at George Mason University who has a minimum GPA of 3.0. To be considered for the scholarship, students must participate in a Summer Program in the UK or Ireland.
To apply for a Monroe "Chip" Whitton Scholarship, submit the following:
>> One academic letter of reference.
>> A 500-word essay detailing how you hope to benefit from this study abroad experience.
