This program will take students on a trek across Ireland's living history, encapsulated in the country’s cathedrals, Celtic high crosses, ancient tombs, rocky coastlines, boggy lowlands, and magnificent castles.

The program begins in Dublin, the vibrant and modern city portrayed in the recent Oscar-winning film Once. Famous for a literary past that includes the likes of James Joyce and William Butler Yeats, Dublin is equally well known for its role in the 1916 Easter Uprising and subsequent war for Irish independence.

Next on the itinerary is Waterford, a town that combines 10th century Viking fortifications with elegant Georgian architecture. While in Waterford, students take day trips to Cork and the Rock of Cashel. Students will also get their fill of castles: we'll visit Blarney Castle, Kilkenny Castle, and Cahir Castle.

The program concludes in Galway, the unofficial capital of Ireland's Irish-speaking west. Students will embark on trips to nearby Clonmacnois, the Cliffs of Moher & Burren, and Connemara. The region offers some of the most dramatic views in all of Ireland, from the splendor of the mountainous Twelve Pins to the deep valleys of Leenane, site of Ireland's only fjord!
