Spend a semester at the Universtity of Fribourg, one of the premier universities in Switzerland.
Video: Student testimonial of Andrea Yeash (Spring 2013)
With approximately 10,000 students and over 200 professors representing more than 110 countries, the University of Fribourg has an unmistakably international atmosphere.
The University of Fribourg is Switzerland’s only bilingual university. Teaching and study in its five faculties (Theology, Law, Economics and Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities, and Natural Science) take place in French and German, with a limited number of courses taught in English. Studying at the University of Fribourg offers a unique opportunity for students to learn several languages and get intercultural insights, not to mention a significant competitive advantage in today’s global job market.
While in Fribourg, students will be directly enrolled at the University of Fribourg in their American Colleges Program, where students will take classes with other students from Switzerland as well as from around the world. Students will be able to take classes in any of the university's five faculties.
Typically, students on the program also take some supplemental language courses to help them increase their language skills, including courses taught at the Language Centre of the University of Fribourg. In addition to regular University classes, students may take special supplemental courses to aid the students with language acquisition. The precise course offerings change each semester.
Fribourg is a very young town and an ancient city: young because 10 000 of
the 40 000 inhabitants are the University’s students, and ancient because
of its medieval
heritage. It is one of Europe’s most beautiful and bestpreserved
medieval ensembles.
Fribourg has a multitude of festivals and cultural events and numerous little
cafés and restaurants that serve first-class delicacies. A fantastic starting
point for excursions. It is easily accessible
by road, rail and air from Geneva, Zurich,
Lausanne and the Swiss capital, Bern.
