Health Systems Management Student Receives National Scholarship Award
May 9, 2008 - Sarah Lash, graduate Health Systems Management Health Policy student, has been selected as a David A. Winston Health Policy Scholarship recipient. Sarah is one of ten students nationwide to receive this award based on her academic scholarship in pursuit of a career in health policy. Read more about Sarah.
CHHS Faculty Recognition
April 30, 2008 - Dr. Pam Cangelosi, School of
Nursing, has
been selected as one of the 2008 recipients of the George Mason
University Teaching Excellence Awards. The award is the highest
honor the University gives to faculty members who show sustained
commitment to providing students with meaningful, significant learning
experiences.
Susan Durham, also from the School of Nursing, has been awarded the 2008 CHHS Habit of Excellence Award. Read more about Susan's accomplishments.
Book Review
March 19, 2008 - Dr. Lisa Eckenwiler's book, The Ethics of Bioethics:
Mapping the Moral Landscape was reviewed in the March 19 issue of the
Journal of the American Medical Association. The reviewer said
that "No other work
has so centrally confronted the issues of ethics in the field
of bioethics" and
that it "should be at the top of the reading list for everyone currently
training in bioethics, involved with clinical and/or research
ethics consultation, pursusing an academic career in bioethics,
or running institutions employing bioethicists..."
Faculty Award
Dr. Cathy Tompkins received a Medal of Honor award by the Association
of Baccalaureate Social Work Program Directors for her work to
bring gerontology education and scholarship to undergraduate
social work programs.

New Research Offers Insights into the Mechanism
of Aging
CHHS Faculty Dr. Lynn Gerber contributed to the article Phenotype
and Course of Hutchinson–Gilford Progeria Syndrome, published
in the New England Journal of Medicine. Research on this rare disease
may help scientists understand aging.
