At George Mason University, we are fortunate to have an incredible community, enhanced by talented faculty and staff like you who support Mason through your daily work as well as through your financial support. Last year, a record-breaking 782 faculty and staff members raised nearly $800,000 for Mason scholarships, student programs, departments, and schools. Your support and that of your colleagues provided the equivalent of 95 one-year, full-ride scholarships to Mason.
Unfortunately, as state support continues to decline, Mason’s ability to innovate is compromised. Ten years ago, funding from the Commonwealth of Virginia covered 60% of the educational costs of students. Today, state funds cover only 30% of those educational costs. With a projected 10.2% increase in tuition to cover some of these cuts, many of our students will be faced with the anxiety of finding ways to continue their education. Our students need your help.

Mason Jar Challenge
For the third year in a row, Mason’s faculty and staff are invited to participate in the Mason Jar Challenge, a competition among the units on campus for the highest donor participation. Athletics has become the team to beat with the highest participation two years in a row, but School of Law had an amazing performance last year to become the school with the greatest increase in participation. As a token of our appreciation, the unit with the greatest increase in participation and the unit with the highest percentage of donors will both receive a free lunch. All participants will be invited to our faculty and staff donor breakfast in fall 2011.
