Thursday, February 29, 6:30 p.m.

Panelists will discuss philanthropy in higher education, specifically how private support impacts the campus community. Check back as panelists will be announced closer to the event.
The need for private support is real.
Contrary to popular belief, a student’s education is not paid for entirely by tuition. In fact, tuition covers only 62% of the total cost of a full-time student’s school year. The additional 38% of the school year is covered by state funding and private support.
Initially, support for new education and instructional building operating costs came from the Commonwealth of Virginia. Now, the Commonwealth funds nothing. Private philanthropy:
- decreases the burden that would otherwise fall to our students to make up for Commonwealth funding shortfalls .
- helps fund resources that enhance your experience that would otherwise be eliminated.
Donations impact your experience and the experience of Mason students to come.
Private support does not replace funding cut from the state budget, but rather supplements budget expenses that would either be eliminated or passed along to students.
Private philanthropy is visible everywhere!

Mason alumni support resources available to you now. Why not enhance the opportunities available to future generations of Mason students with your support?
Every gift has an impact.
Last year, almost $119,000 was raised from gifts of $25 or less. These gifts could provide:
- 4 one-year full-time, out-of-state scholarships
- 13 one-year, full-time, in-state scholarships
- 19 students room and board for one semester
- 595 students' text books for one semester
If every member of the student body gave $1, we could provide three one-year, full-time, in-state scholarships!
Bring your change, leave a mark (wherever you want!)
Your gift can go wherever you want it to go. Your gift will have an impact on whatever it is you feel passionately about.
Gifts to Mason’s Excellence Fund are also a great option because these funds will finance Mason’s greatest need projects.
