A Dream Becoming Reality: Victoria Stowe
Victoria Stowe’s career aspirations started by watching television. She was first intrigued by a career in the judicial system after viewing televised court cases and crime dramas.
In high school, Victoria participated in the Hoop Dreams program, which prepares inner city youth to apply for and attend college. She mentioned her interest in studying the justice system to her program mentor, who mentioned that George Mason’s administration of justice program might be a good fit for Victoria.
It has been. Victoria enjoys the challenges of her major and hopes to build upon her academic knowledge by completing an internship in her junior or senior year, preferably in the District of Columbia court system.
To make her educational dreams a reality, the Washington, D.C. native relies on scholarships, loans, and summer jobs to pay her expenses. As Victoria was preparing to pay tuition last school year, she found out that some of her government grant funding fell through.
Fortunately, Victoria applied for and received a scholarship through Mason’s Student Giving Campaign that covered her costs. She is grateful for the scholarship, which prevented her from having to incur additional debt.
Graduation may still be in the distance, but Victoria is already planning for her future. She hopes to take some time to travel after graduation and then to apply to law school. Eventually, she would like to practice family law and possibly become a judge. She also plans to mentor inner city youth who want to go to college, as was once done for her.
