Mason Institutional Deadlines and Application Deadlines

Institutional deadlines are earlier than foundation deadlines so that the Coordinator for Postgraduate Fellowships and Scholarships or faculty advisors can review or process applications. Some foundations, such as the Truman Foundation, require that a university nominating committee meet to review applications prior to submission to the foundation.

Some fellowships are restricted to U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents. Many Mason students are not U.S. citizens, while many fellowship programs are limited to U.S. citizens. Dr. Camille Stillwell, Director of the DC Workforce Development Administration, has compiled a list of fellowships (pdf) that do not require U.S. citizenship.

George Mason University Chinese Government Scholarship
The Education Office of the Chinese Embassy in town has authorized George Mason University to nominate candidates for Chinese government scholarships to study at a Chinese university to start end of August 2010. The scholarship provides the opportunity for our Mason students/graduates to study in China either for one year the Chinese language and culture, or up to four years for a degree program. The grant includes settlement money, tuition, room, board, medical insurance, domestic trips and spending money.

To be eligible to apply, you must
1) Be a current degree seeking George Mason student or recently graduated with a Mason degree.
2) Have completed Chinese 210/202 or higher by the end of spring 2010.
3) Submit your transcript with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher.
4) Be a U.S. citizen.
5) Write a personal statement letter on why you want to study in China.
6) Request a reference letter from a GMU professor who knows you well other than your Chinese language instructor.
