Registration for the Opening Ceremony

Opening Ceremony and Celebration (scroll down to register online)

Monday, April 16
Noon - 1 pm, North Plaza (Rain site: JC Atrium)

International Week Opening Ceremony celebrates the many individuals who comprise our diverse and global community. Instead of focusing on the nations from which our students come, we are focusing on the students themselves, as well as the faculty and staff who make up Mason Nation.

The Opening Ceremony and Celebration is a Parade of Students (faculty and staff are also invited to march). We hope all members of the Mason community will join us to express their international identity and their full membership in the Mason family. Each participant will be recognized by the national, cultural, or ethnic identity that most closely defines him/her.

By shifting attention to the collective diversity of our campus, the celebration promises to be more exciting, and more uniting, than ever.

Guidelines for Display of Flags during the Opening Ceremony and Celebration 2012:

Flags that represent the identity of a student or group of students may be displayed during the International Week Opening Ceremony and Celebration.
The Office of International Programs and Services (OIPS) will supply flags that represent countries that appear on the I-20's and DS-2019's of current Mason students.*

- OIPS list of countries 2012

Students may carry flags that are not on the OIPS list, but must supply these flags themselves.

(*An I-20 is a certificate of eligibility for a non-immigrant F-1 student and a DS-2019 is a certificate of eligibility for exchange visitor J-1 status)
