Sexual Assault Is...

Sexual assault is any sexual activity that occurs without consent. This includes unwanted kissing, touching, penetration, or other behaviors. Sexual assault is not gender specific. No matter what the circumstances are, sexual assault is never the victim’s fault.

What is consent?

Consent means permission. Consent requires that both parties are fully conscious, have equal ability to act, are positive and sincere in their desires, and have clearly communicated their intent. It is the initiator’s responsibility to get permission from the other person. Consent can also be withdrawn at any time. That means a person may change his or her mind at any time, and it is the initiator’s job to stop.
If someone uses force, threat, intimidation, or takes advantage of another person’s mental incapacities or physical helplessness, there is no consent.
