Equity and Diversity Services

Disabilities / Americans with Disabilities Act

George Mason University is committed to the full inclusion of individuals with disabilities and to continually improving the accessibility of our campus, programs and activities. The ADA Coordinator in the Office of Equity and Diversity Services guides the University's efforts to move beyond compliance and toward seamless access. The ADA Coordinator collaborates with University offices, governmental agencies, and advocacy groups to provide technical assistance and direction to ensure University compliance with State and Federal mandates. The Office of Equity and Diversity Services is thus a referral point for disability related information and resources; provides consultation on policy review and facilities planning; conducts workshops and training on disability related topics; serves as a clearing house for disability related complaints; and develops disability related initiatives.

Assistive Technology Initiative

The Assistive Technology Initiative is a joint project of the Office of Equity and Diversity Services, the Helen A. Kellar Institute for Human Disability, and the Office of Disability Services. Initiative staff provide assistive technology assessments for students and staff, train ATI clients in the use of adaptive technology, provide technical assistance and training to university employees on various aspects of making and keeping technology assessable, and manage the production of accessible text for students and employees. The Kellar Institute operates the Assistive Technology Lab where students are trained in the uses of assistive technology.
