Emergency Response Information

From: David Farris, Director, Emergency Preparedness and Response; Environmental Compliance Manager
Date: March 4, 2009

Environmental Health and Safety Office (EHS) interns posted 100 Emergency Action Flyers throughout Thompson and Robinson A&B.  Flyers were posted in public areas and open classrooms on bulletin boards.  If a space did not have a bulletin board a flyer was not posted; facilities management and the university discourages taping flyers on dry wall and the flyers tend to fall off.

EHS will make the Emergency Action Flyer available on the EHS website, ehs.gmu.edu.  An e-file announcement will be made on March 9th explaining the content, use, and location of the flyer so that university faculty and staff can print and post additional copies as needed and at their convenience.  EHS will ask interns to visit the most common public areas on campus to ensure that emergency flyers are posted.

In addition to the Emergency Action Flyer, EHS is in the process of designing Emergency Preparation Guides to address emergency scenarios that may occur on campus to include: On-Campus Violence, Medical Emergencies, Tornados and Severe Weather, Power Outages, Hazardous Materials Emergencies, and Fires.  These guides will provide specific guidance and assist departments and units with creating a plan tailored to their needs and organizational structure.   Please let me know if there is anything I can do to assist you or the Senate in addressing emergency preparations.   Thank you for your concern and help in resolving this issue.
