Projects and Partnerships

Preparing students and faculty to live and work in an increasingly global society is of the utmost importance. Mason is deeply committed to developing research and educational collaborations abroad. We provide a number of opportunities to for students and scholars to work outside of the U.S., participate in international research initiatives and address social issues around the world. Through numerous international projects and partnerships, Mason truly provides unlimited opportunities to become a citizen of the world.

  • The Sino-American 1+2+1 Dual Degree Program
    This international education initiative brings American and Chinese universities together to offer dual degrees to Chinese undergraduate students. 1+2+1 students spend their freshman year in a Chinese university, their sophomore and junior years at an American university, and their senior year back at their original university in China. Upon completing all requirements, students receive baccalaureate degrees from each school.
  • Ras Al Khaimah Campus
    Mason offers classes at its first campus outside of the United States, located in the United Arab Emirates. The Ras Al Khaimah Campus was created with the objective to provide world-class educational facilities in association with highly reputed universities from all over the world for the people of the UAE and the region.
  • FAST TRAIN
    The Foreign Affairs Spouses Teacher Training Program (FAST TRAIN) is an alternative licensure program for Peace Corps Fellows and Master’s International Programs. While FAST TRAIN continues to prepare teachers for international service, it has also entered into an agreement with the Peace Corps to offer the Peace Corps Fellows Program, which trains returning volunteers to teach elementary education or English as a second language in multicultural settings in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.
  • International Baccalaureate Partnership
    George Mason is the only university in North America to offer certificate programs in a partnership with the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). CEHD’s Center for International Education is offering a two-track initiative. The Certificate in Advanced IB Studies is for practicing teachers, covering domains in the Primary Years Program (PYP), the Middle School Program (MYP), and the Diploma Program (DP). The second track allows students in the FAST TRAIN Elementary Education Program to complete course work in elementary education, as well as a capstone course, Teaching and Learning the IB Primary Years.
  • The School of Public Policy & Management at Tsinghua University
    Mason's School of Public Policy (SPP) collaborates with the School of Public Policy & Management (SPPM) at Tsinghua University in Beijing. Members of the SPPM community are engaged in intensive cooperation with academic institutions, firms, foundations, and international organizations, hold relevant academic conferences, publish academic articles, and exchange ideas and information through the Internet.
  • School of Management Global Residency
    Mason’s School of Management is one of a handful of business schools to have a global residency requirement. Since 1991, our graduate business students have traveled around the globe on one- to two- week residencies in Australia, China, India, the Pacific Rim and other regions of the world. The global residency is offered at the completion of the core curriculum, before students begin their electives and areas of concentration, which enables students to integrate what they have learned from the global experience into their elective courses.
  • World History Matters
    World History Matters is a portal to world history on the web. The site contains links to world history sources and women in world history. World History Matters is a project of the Center for History and New Media, George Mason University, with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Gladys Krieble Delmas Foundation.
