African-American Political and Cultural Figures
While he was the Washington, D.C., political reporter for The Saturday
Evening Post,
Ollie Atkins had the occasion to photograph several important African-American
leaders during
the 1960s. From the March on Washington in August 1963 to the Poor People's
Campaign of May 1968, he photographed many important figures such as Dr. Martin
Luther King, Jr., Thurgood Marshall, and Roy Wilkins.
