| 100% cotton bond paper is,
as its name suggests, paper made from 100% cotton fibers. Cotton
papers are superior in both strength and durability to wood pulp-based
papers, which often contain high concentrations of destructive acids. Unfortunately,
most common copier/laser printer papers are of the wood pulp-based type.
Since cotton fiber papers are known to last several hundred years without
fading, discoloring, or deteriorating; they are desirable for use as the
archival copies of your dissertation or thesis.
Cotton bond paper can be found at most stores that sell stationery and other office products. It may be found at Staples, Office Depot, Office Max, and Kinko's to name just a few. It is also available at the GMU Bookstore, Walmart, and other department stores which have stationery departments. Popular brands include: Crane's, Southworth, and Eaton; and it is often called resume or thesis paper. Though most cotton papers contain a watermark, it is not necessary that your paper have one. The paper should be white and measure 8.5" x 11.0", however. Cotton papers come in a variety of weights. 20, 24, or 28-lb papers are most suitable. 32-lb paper is fine as well, though it will cost substantially more than the others. Cotton papers tend to more expensive than regular copier papers. Depending upon where you purchase it, be prepared to spend at least ten to seventeen cents per sheet when buying cotton paper. |
