DUPLICATION OF SC&A
MATERIALS
Special Collections
& Archives (SC&A) preserves and makes available to students,
faculty, and researchers original scholarly and materials. Subject areas
in SC&A include Northern Virginiana, Planned Community Archives,
Congressional Papers, Performing Arts, Maps, the Civil War, and George
Mason University. Formats include manuscripts, historical documents,
playbills, posters, musical scores, audio and videotapes, architectural
drawings, photographs, and slides.
SC&A provides various
duplication services for many of its holdings. These services include
audio and video duplication, scanning, and photocopying. These services
are available for SC&A materials only. Whether or not materials
may be duplicated depends on the size, fragility, restrictions and/or
rarity of the materials. Requestors should be aware that quality of
reproductions (in every format) depends on many factors, including
quality of the original image, limitations of SC&A's equipment,
etc. Requestors should work closely with appropriate SC&A staff
to make sure they know exactly what they have ordered and what they
will be receiving in terms of quality and quantity. Some materials
have to be duplicated by SC&A staff only; some may be duplicated
by researchers; and others cannot be duplicated. Please consult a
staff member about duplicating materials and whether duplication of
a specific item is permitted.
All SC&A materials
are subject to copyright law. Please consult SC&A’s service
guide, Copyright
Guidelines, for more information.
Photocopying
Researchers may duplicate
SC&A materials themselves by using a self-service copier in
SC&A, or they may elect to have SC&A staff photocopy materials
for them.
Photographs
High
resolution scanned images, suitable for publication, can be made from
SC&A’s photographs.
Scanned Images
Materials in SC&A may
be scanned by SC&A staff members using SC&A’s scanning equipment,
depending on the size and fragility of the document. All copyright
regulations apply to scanned materials.
Slides
Duplication of slides in
the form of a scanned image file can be made through SC&A.
