Henry O. Lampe was born in Germany of
American parents. He has been employed as a government worker,
as well, as a stockbroker. Mr. Lampe has a long record of civic
activities since 1964. Among other activities he has been a member
of the Northern Virginia Regional Planning Commission, a member of
the General Assembly of Virginia, Vice Chair of the Virginia Metropolitan
Areas Transportation Study Commission, a delegate to the White House
Conference on Aging, a member of the Arlington Commission on Aging,
Chair and president of the Northern Virginia Mental Health Association,
and on the Board of Trustees at Arlington Hospital. He has also
been on the Board of Visitors for George Mason University.
Special Collections & Archives (SC&A)
preserves and makes available to all students, faculty, and researchers
many kinds
of original and scholarly materials. Subject
areas in SC&A include Northern Virginiana, Planned Community Archives,
Congressional Papers, Performing Arts, Maps, the Civil
War, and George Mason University. Formats in SC&A include
manuscripts, rare books, playbills, musical
scores, audio and videotapes, architectural drawings, photographs,
and slides.

SC&A has a reading room, providing
a quiet haven for serious research. Most materials may be photocopied,
either by the researcher or by staff,
depending on the nature of the item. Telephone or mail requests for
photocopies and photographs are handled for a fee on a prepaid basis.
Tours can be arranged for small groups, and speakers are available
upon request. Some materials may also be requested for use in exhibitions.
