Many of the books donated by Dean Struppa are of an age and condition that additional preservation will ensure that they will last for many more years, if not centuries. To provide maximum protection, the University Libraries decided to have most of the books put in protective clamshell boxes.

The boxes have six-panel brown morocco spines with oxblood lettering pieces lettered in gold with linen-finish book cloth over boards. All of the work (except stamping) was done by hand. The designer of the boxes and the supervisor of the project was Bryan Draper. Stephanie Duval and Kerry Methany constructed the boxes; they all work for the Etherington Conservation Center in Greensborro, North Carolina.
