Equity Office Celebrates 10 Years of ADA



The University Equity Office celebrates the tenth anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) with speakers, awards, and exhibits. On Wednesday, April 19, at 9 a.m. in the Mason Hall Board Room, President Alan Merten, Vice President and University Equity Officer Earl G. Ingram, and Equity Office ADA/ EEO specialist Darryle Craig will speak in support of those who assure ADA compliance at George Mason.

Also appearing will be Margaret Chase Hager, a former member of the National Council on Disability, a trustee for the Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center Foundation, and a tireless advocate for the disabled community. Hager, wife of Virginia's lieutenant governor John H. Hager, will speak about "Our Personal Experience and Our American Policy."

David Fram, director of ADA and EEO services for the National Employment Law Institute and author of Resolving ADA Workplace Questions, rounds out the program, speaking on national trends in ADA compliance.

Related items will be on display in the Mason Hall Atrium, including materials from the University Equity Office, the Disability Resource Center, the Helen A. Kellar Institute for Human disAbilities, and the Assistive Technology Initiative, a project that provides individuals with disabilities the tools they require to access computer technology that is available to the entire university community.

From noon to 2:30 on April 19, a celebration featuring music, cake, and giveaways will take place outside the Student Government offices on the first floor of the Johnson Center. Also on display in the Johnson Center will be some of the assistive technology in use at Mason.
