Increase in Faculty Grants, Contract Activity Reported

By Daniel Walsch

Grant and contract activity is on the rise at George Mason. According to a report released by the Office of Sponsored Programs, the amount of monies brought in by faculty members between July and December 2000 totaled $22.2 million. During the same period in 1999, university faculty members brought in $20.5 million.

The fiscal year 2000 report details how the increases in awards and expenditures were unprecedented and the increase in direct industry support was the largest ever. This upward momentum continues; in January 2001, faculty members brought in $4.1 million.

The same report states that for the last half of 2000, the Office of Sponsored Programs' expenditures totaled $22.4 million, compared with $19.9 million for the same period in 1999.
