Cherubin, Mandaville: Fenwick Fellows
Rose Cherubin, Philosophy
and Religious Studies, and Peter Mandaville, Public and International Affairs,
have been selected as the 2001-02 Fenwick Fellows. Fenwick Fellowships are
awarded annually to teaching faculty members for the pursuit of research
projects that help the University Libraries and advance knowledge in the
field.
Cherubin will focus
her research on Parmenides, Zeno, and the framework of scientific knowledge.
Her research will utilize current library resources, including the Thesaurus
Linguae Graecae database, and will expand future library holdings through
a specially developed bibliography relating to this research project.
Mandaville will work
on a major study of non-Western alternatives to modern political practice.
He intends to look at the viability of the modern, territorial nation-state,
not by focusing on supranational or regional organizations such as the European
Union, but rather to look within the state--particularly postcolonial states
in the developing world.
