Transitions

New Faces

Donald Boudreaux, a faculty member in the Economics Department from 1985 through 1990, returns to George Mason as the new chair of the department. He has been president of the Foundation of Economics since 1997.

Sara Cobb, director of Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution, officially took her post in August.

Beverly Davis, director of graduate admissions, took her post in July. See story.

Laurie Fathe was hired as director of the newly created Teaching and Learning Center. See story.

Andrew Flagel, dean of admissions and enrollment development, officially took his post in July. See story.

James E. Gardner, chair of the Department of Music, joined George Mason from the University of Houston where he served as associate director of the Moores School of Music for six years.

Jeff Gorrell, dean, Graduate School of Education, officially took his post in June.

William Reeder, dean, College of Visual and Performing Arts, officially took his post July. See story.

Ernest DuBester was appointed chairman of the Law School's new Alternative Dispute Resolution Program. The program focuses on arming students with alternative strategies for resolving the types of legal disputes that often end up in court. DuBester will work closely with the Center for Advanced Study of Law and Dispute Resolution Processes, which was established last year by the School of Law, the Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution, and the National Mediation Board.

Robert Nakles, became director of the new Information Technology Project Office on Aug. 1. Formerly supervisor of instructional technology for Loudoun County Public Schools, Nakles will assist Joy Hughes, vice president for Information Technology (IT), and lead special projects, especially those that require the involvement and commitment of staff outside IT.

Changing Places

Rita Carty, dean of the College of Nursing and Health Science, announced plans to step down from her post at the end of the academic year. A search is underway to find her replacement. She plans to return to the faculty.

Teresa Domzal stepped down as dean of the School of Management this summer. She plans to return to the faculty following a period of administrative leave until her replacement is found. In the meantime, Richard Klimoski, professor in the Psychology Department and director of the Center for Behavioral and Cognitive Studies, is the interim dean.

John Radner, associate professor of English, was appointed the new director of Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies. He officially began July 5.

Keith Segerson, executive director of University Computing and Information Systems, moved across campus and into a new position as senior director of information technology for the School of Computational Sciences and the School of Information Technology and Engineering on Aug. 1.

Robert Shumaker, formerly a researcher at the Krasnow Institute for Advanced Study, was named director of Cognitive Behavioral Research at Krasnow.
