News in Brief
Krasnow Institute Merges with George Mason
The board of trustees of the Krasnow Institute for Advanced Study has approved a merger with George Mason, resulting in a new name for the institute: the Krasnow Institute for Advanced Study of George Mason University.
The institute was established with a 1989 bequest from the late Shelley Krasnow, a long-time resident of Fairfax who was trained as an electrical engineer. Krasnow wanted to fund an institute whose purpose was to advance human knowledge for the betterment of humankind. From that general goal, its first board of trustees developed a more specific role for Krasnow as a center for the study of human cognition. The institute began operations in 1993, and the current Krasnow facility opened on the Fairfax Campus in 1997.
