Curry Directs Laboratory SafetyLisa Curry is director of laboratory safety, a new position that makes her responsible for environmental and health and safety matters in all research and instructional laboratories at George Mason. Curry earned her Ph.D. in chemical engineering at the University of Michigan and served as one of the project scientists whose responsibilities included developing and implementing safety procedures at the Dow Chemical Company, formerly Union Carbide, in South Charleston, West Virginia. The new position, which reports to the vice provost for research and was created to improve lab safety across all three campuses, separates all lab safety and security issues from general campus safety issues, which will still be under the purview of the university safety officer. The lab safety office will work closely and share facilities with the university safety officer. "Mason is committed to the ongoing progression of its laboratory safety program," says Curry. |
