Dance Division Sets Benefit Concerts
Benefit concerts to raise funds for the Dance Division are held April 2 and 3 at 8 p.m. in the Concert Hall. Mason's dance company performs works by guest choreographer Doug Varone, including Strict Love, a septet set to the Motown sound of Michael Jackson and Diana Ross. Varone, fresh from choreographing the musical play Triumph of Love on Broadway, set this work during his residency at Mason in January. Additionally, the dance company performs It Is Ever Thus, a piece choreographed by dance faculty member Susan Shields. Rounding out the evening is the University Chorale's rendition of excerpts from Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, and the GMU Jazz Ensemble performance of Danny Buraczeski's Swing Concerto, featuring big band songs by Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw.
