On March 5, the Provost's Office and the College of Arts and Sciences took a few moments to recognize Anita Taylor for her contributions to the university over the years with a reception at the Mathy House.

Taylor joined the university in 1979 as chair of the Department of Fine and Performing Arts and Communication, which was then housed at the North Campus (now Paul VI High School in Fairfax). In the last 19 years, she has been an integral part of George Mason and has served the university in a variety of ways--as chair of the Communication Department, the Faculty Senate, and the Media Board, and more recently as director of Women's Studies, to name a few.

In addition, the National Communication Association honored Taylor with the Robert J. Kilber Memorial Award for her contributions to the association and the field.

"She is an outstanding teacher and has had great impact on her colleagues," says Don Boileau, chair of the Communication Department. "She is truly dedicated to student learning and strives to challenge students."

"Anita Taylor is a wonderful example of a citizen of the university community and beyond," says Daniele Struppa, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

During the 1998-99 academic year, Taylor travels to Evergreen State College in Olympia, Wash., as part of a New Century College faculty exchange.
