Alumni Director Takes New Position in Ohio

By Colleen Kearney

E. Michael Eastman, director of Alumni Affairs, has been named the director of alumni affairs and chief operating officer of the University of Cincinnati Alumni Association, effective Nov. 1. Alumni Affairs associate director Chris Clark-Talley will serve as interim director.

Eastman came to George Mason in November 1996 from Indiana, where he had been the director of alumni relations at Anderson University and a doctoral fellow with Ball State University's Alumni Association. During Eastman's tenure, the George Mason University Alumni Association accomplished several goals, including the development of a stronger financial base and a mission statement with set goals and objectives. Additionally, Eastman was able to substantially increase staff support, which is helping the association achieve its goals and objectives.

"The George Mason University Alumni Association has come a long way, under the direction of Dr. Merten, during my tenure at the university," says Eastman. "It has been a pleasure to see [the association] increase its financial resources and participation of graduates, as well as to watch a development of renewed interest on behalf of all those associated with the university in strengthening its alumni program.

"The Alumni Association has its best years ahead," says Eastman. "Established in 1968, it strives to be an association involving all those it serves." "George Mason University's alumni program has made great strides forward under Mike Eastman's direction," says university president Alan G. Merten. "While the program itself has grown in size and the quality of activities has improved, what's even more significant is that the number of alumni who are actively involved with the university has also increased. This will prove to be of great benefit to George Mason in the years to come," says Merten. "Mike has established a solid foundation on which his successor can build. We know he will do well in his new position."
