Domzal Named Dean of SOMAfter serving for one year as interim dean, Teresa Domzal has been named dean of the George Mason University School of Management (SOM). Her appointment is effective immediately. Domzal, who has a national reputation as a scholar of postmodern consumer culture and international advertising, has been at George Mason for 17 years, rising from assistant to full professor during that time. She has taught courses in marketing, advertising, and promotional strategy fields, and has continued her scholarly work, publishing in numerous journals and presenting at national and international conferences. She also has lectured at universities throughout the world. In addition to her teaching, Domzal has served, along with SOM colleague Timothy Sugrue, as interim associate dean of the school. Then last year, she and Sugrue were appointed interim dean and senior associate dean, respectively. "The School of Management needs to provide a high level of quality both in its traditional degree programs and in new undertakings, such as certificate courses and programs interlinked with the technology curriculum," says George Mason president Alan Merten, who describes Domzal as "a marketing professor with high academic credentials who also has extensive business experience working as a consultant with major international companies." Domzal earned her bachelor's degree from Niagara University, and her M.B.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati. Currently, the SOM boasts an enrollment of approximately 3,400 students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. With Domzal's leadership, the school has strengthened its graduate educational programs for working professionals, enhanced undergraduate education, and set a strategy for future development. ,P> According to Merten, Domzal "has the drive and breadth of mission to move the School of Management to the level required to meet the needs of the new century. Under her direction, the school has already consolidated its programs and set a vigorous new direction."
