Festival of Lights Set for December 7

The third annual Festival of Lights celebration is scheduled for the week of Dec. 7 through 11. Sponsored by Johnson Center Programs and the Office of University Life, many of the events take place in the Johnson Center.

One of the highlights of the week is patriot George Mason's birthday, which is Dec. 11 but will be celebrated Dec. 10 in the Multipurpose Room with birthday cake courtesy of the Office of Alumni Affairs. In addition to the cake, Robert Hawkes, History and Art History, will give a talk about George Mason, the man.

Expect live music daily at noon in the Center Court, and on Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 8 and 9, also in the court area, passersby will find a craft corner where they can make their own cards and holiday decorations from 1 to 5 p.m.

On Monday, Dec. 7, and Thursday, Dec. 10, there will be carriage rides, starting by the George Mason statue, from 3 to 5 p.m. For those still finishing papers in the library or studying for exams, winter snacks will be served in the second-floor atriums on Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 8 and 9, at 3 p.m.

Ongoing campuswide is the annual door/office decorating contest. To register your office or to find out more information, contact Kristy Jones at kjone2@gmu.edu by Dec. 7.

Planning for the festival is still under way. For more information about events as they are scheduled, check out the Daily Gazette at http://gazette.gmu.edu or call Alissa Karton at x31438.
