SPAM Team Is Created to Increase Efficiency

By Barbara Lubar

As part of a continuous effort to increase productivity and efficiency at the university, Provost David Potter, Senior Vice President Maurice Scherrens, and Chief of Staff Larry Czarda have formed the Special Projects and Management Analysis (SPAM) team. The team has been established to handle special projects and management analysis in areas that would improve processes and lead to better and more facile integration.

Twenty-two projects have been identified as priorities for SPAM. Some include a survey of the quality of University Services, which was distributed to the President's Council and 75 administrators; an assessment of duplicative projects; and a costing out of projects at the Prince William and Arlington Campuses.

The SPAM team comprises Benn Crandall, University Services; Diane Turner, Fiscal Services; Dave Rossell, Provost's Office; Keith Segerson, University Computing and Information Systems; Donna Kidd, Budget/Institutional Research and Reporting; Ken Bumgarner, University Services; Jeff Brandwine, Legal Affairs; Ken Hubble, Internal Audit and Manage-ment Services; and Gerry Mulherin, University Life.

"As a learning organization, we must constantly be looking at improving our policies, procedures, and practices," says Scherrens. "We have chosen this group based on the breadth of experience of its members, and feel confident that they can lead us in our quest for best practices."
