Board of Trustees Welcomes New Members



The George Mason University Foundation Board of Trustees launched this academic year with 10 new members, 5 of whom are alumni. The trustees, all prominent businesspersons, are responsible for investing and overseeing private funds given to the university, and for interesting others in supporting the university. "As the capital campaign gets underway, we'll be looking to the trustees to help us meet our fund-raising goals," says Jim Johnson, director of leadership gifts for the Development Office.

The new members, appointed to a three-year term, are as follows:

  • Michael G. Anzilotti, M.B.A. '83, is president and CEO of First Virginia Bank.
  • Otis D. Coston Jr. is president and CEO of the Stonemark Corporation, a development company and builder of commercial properties. Coston was on the Board of Trustees from 1977 to 1998, serving as vice president (1991Ð93), vice chairman (1993Ð94), and chairman (1994Ð96).
  • Teresa M. Klaassen, B.S. Business Administration '77, is the executive vice president and secretary of Sunrise Assisted Living, a nationwide network of retirement homes, which she founded with her husband, Paul.
  • J. Hamilton Lambert, Doctor of Humane Letters '97 (honorary), is principal of J. Hamilton Lambert and Associates. Lambert, the former county executive of Fairfax County, has also served as a director on the board of Friends of the Northern Virginia Chair in Local Government, and as an advisor to The Institute of Public Policy.
  • Claudia F. Pleasants, B.A. Psychology '74, is in her third term on the board. She is real estate manager of The Pleasants Company, a real estate development and construction firm.
  • Lou Ann Scanlan is president and CEO of UUcom, an Internet services company. Scanlan also serves on the Women's Advisory Board.
  • Earl W. Stafford is president of Unitech, which develops interactive multimedia training systems for the military and government agencies. He has two children who graduated from George Mason in 1998 and 1999.
  • Clifton Webb is vice president of Weber McGinn, a public relations firm.
  • Jeannette Lee White is president and CEO of Sytel, an information technology company.
  • D. Jean Wu, M.S. Information Systems '87, is president of Integrated Management Services, an information management firm. She also serves as a member of the Minority Advisory Board.
Recently elected officers of the board are K. David Boyer Jr., chairman; Lovey L. Hammel (B.S. '88), vice chairman; Paul E. Kyle, secretary; and Carson Lee Fifer Jr., treasurer. Judith Jobbitt is president of the foundation.
