From sunshine to snow on the ground or chill in the air, yes these are the signs that the spring semester is here. Forty-three (43) student employees attended training from far and wide on January 19th and 20th. They had to battle the Colorado weather and the impact of 70 degree weather in D.C. On the first day, students received more specific training around their unit area. These units are comprised of the Office Assistants, Event Managers and Technicians, Building Managers of SUB I and SUB II along with Recreation Assistants. They learned additional tips and strategies to provide better service. Later in the day they had a chance to wind down with fellow staff members outside of their units at the Game Room located in SUB I. There was laughter, pool, table tennis, arcades games and the real crowd favorite - food by Sodexho catering. The next day, all of our staff learned about customer service, resume writing and interviewing skills. At the end of a long day there were smiles as the student employees took pictures. They were prepared to go back to their individual units refreshed, revitalized and ready to better service you- our customers, guests and friends. So as you travel around campus, look for the black shirt with the gold logo. Say hello, and encourage them for the hard work that they do and all the time spent in training.

Dewberry Hall has undergone a major renovation to its lighting system! The body and brains of the lighting system has been completely upgraded and replaced. The purpose was to allow more control and customization for events and activities in Dewberry Hall. The existing house lighting fixtures are basically the only thing remaining from the old system. We have added dimming controls to the wall plates allowing patrons to customize their setting instead of having to rely on a preset lighting scene. We have also added 52 dimmers for theatrical stage and specialty lighting. Before there were areas of the stage not fully lit or only lit from one angle, creating multiple shadows, now we have enough fixtures to light every possible size of stage that gets setup in Dewberry. Furthermore, we can control each fixture, where previously we were unable to light one area of the stage without lighting another part. Not only does it now meet the demands of this venue, it also has the expansion capabilities for new technology in the future. After only a few weeks into this semester, the new system has had an immediate first-rate response by our patrons and we look forward to working with all clients in their future endeavors and events.
