|
Mary Kindred is retiring on December 1, 2006. She has been with Mason for almost 25 years and is one of Johnson Center and Student Unions' most valued employees. Her impact has been felt not only due to her stellar performance as our Building Supervisor for Student Union I, but also due to the kind, friendly face that has greeted so many people every day for so many years. Mary is a woman of many accomplishments: a business owner, single parent, caregiver to her mother, supervisor and mentor to many. Mary takes great pride in her work and if you look up the term "teamwork" in the dictionary, it states, "Go see Mary Kindred!" Whether it was helping a student group with an event or ensuring the building was open on time, Mary made sure with whatever she was doing that she did it right and on time. Mary will surely be missed not just by the Operations Department, but by the many folks she has touched across the campus. University Life, Facilities Management, Sodexho, University Police, Events Management and several other partners we work with have made professional and personal relationships with Mary over the years. We all join together in wishing Mary the very best in her new chapter in life. We will all miss her! ACUI Conference
JCSU Staff attended Association of College Unions International (ACUI) Regional Conference which was held on November 10-11 at Morgan State University. The following people attended this event: David Atkins, Director
Mason will be hosting the ACUI Regional Conference next year. Mark your calendars for November 2-3, 2007! Thinking about having an event, but not quite sure how to get started? The best place to start is with the Office of Events Management (OEM) located in SUB II (Room 2026). OEM schedules thousands of activities for the University every year, including those that occur in the Johnson Center and Student Unions. OEM does more than schedule rooms; they plan and coordinate a variety of special events sponsored by Mason Departments and organizations from the community. Whether your event is for a small group or a large event, OEM will provide the guidance and information needed to assist you with the planning process of your event. OEM works closely with our department to ensure we are able to properly manage the events occurring in the Johnson Center and SUB I and II. They will ask you questions about room set up, how many people might be attending, start and finish times of the event, when you need to access the reserved space to prepare for your event, etc. Its important to provide accurate information and update OEM if plans change (as they often do), because this information is provided to our department so we can prepare the event space correctly and schedule the correct number of Operations staff to support your event. Most major or complex events require additional support such as catering or advanced audio visual (A/V) needs, OEM will point you in the right direction. For catering you can go to Sodexhos online services or their office located just past the Gold Room (G18) in the Johnson Centers ground floor. If you need advanced audio visual (A/V) equipment you will be directed to Events Production (G45), also located in the ground floor of the Johnson Center. Events Production (EP) is a part of the Johnson Center and Student Union Operations department and supports event programming by providing state of the art sound reinforcement equipment. EP has highly skilled staff to setup, operate, and breakdown customized mobile A/V equipment and can handle just about any kind of event that requires a little more juice or technological savvy that your event space doesn't already have built into it for a fraction of the outside cost. Simply check out our website to see how easy it is to request EP services online, view the multifaceted inventory and low costs. Be sure to request EP services well in advance at least two to three weeks or you might be disappointed that they are all booked up! Making a major event happen at Mason can be pretty uneventful if you plan ahead, use the services from the folks that are here to assist you and are willing to have some fun in the process! |
