CONSTITUTION OF THE GERMAN CLUB


of George Mason University



ARTICLE I - PURPOSE

The purpose of this organization shall be to promote the study of German and interest in the culture of Germany and other German-speaking regions.
 

ARTICLE 11 - MEMBERSHIP

Active membership shall be open to all George Mason University students.
 

ARTICLE III - OFFICERS AND FACULTV/STAFF ADVISOR

Section 1.     The officers of this organization shall be:

    a. President

    b. Vice-President

    c. Secretary

    d. Treasurer

    e. Umbrella Representative

    f. Webmaster

Section 2.     The faculty/staff advisor of this organization shall be: Irmgard Wagner
 

ARTICLE IV - POWERS

Section 1.     The membership at a meeting shall have the power to:

    a. Determine organizational policies and initiate programs.

    b. Develop and adopt additional by-laws as may be necessary for the wen being of the organization, provided that they do not conflict with elements and spirit of this constitution.

Section 2.     The Duties of the President shall include:

    a. Calling and chairing regular and special meetings.

    b. Appointing standing and special committees. and delegating other authority as necessary.

    c. Organizing, publicizing and supervising officer elections in March and additionally as necessary.

    d. Using the resources of George Mason University including facilities and funding in accordance with University policy.

Section 3.     The Duties of the Vice-President shall be:

    a. Assisting the President in all of his/her aforementioned duties.

    b. Read any committees that the officers deem necessary.

Section 4.     The Duties of the Secretary shall include:

    a. Maintaining accurate records of meeting minutes and other correspondence.

    b. Publicizing to the University community the policies and activities of the organization.

Section 5.     The Duties of the Treasurer shall include:

    a. Developing a budget and handling all fmancial matters of the organization.

    b. Filling out necessary paperwork to obtain funding from the Student Funding Board.
 

Section 6.     The Duties of the Umbrella Representative shall be:

    a. Representing German Club to the academic empowerment umbrella, and attending any meetings necessary to do so.

    b. Assisting the Treasurer in obtaining funding for the organization,

Section 7.     The Duties of the WebmasteT shall be:

    a. Keeping the German Club web page updated.

    b. E-mailing information about meetings and other club activities to the members.
 

ARTICLE V - MEETINGS

Section 1.     Regular meetings will be held bi-monthly on varying days, as to accommodate the schedules of as many members as possible.

Section 2.     A special meeting may be called by all the officers, or whichever ones are present at the time the meeting is deemed necessary.
 

ARTICLE VI - AMENDMENTS

Section 1.     Proposals for amendments to the const or by4aws shall be announced at a regular meeting and posted two weeks prior to consideration.

Section 2.     A 2/3 favorable vote of those members of the organization present at a regular meeting shall be required to ratify an amendment.
