First, if you know a company, store, restaurant, or other services that can donate money, please give the officers, Dr. Wolf, and I the company information and who to contact so we can discuss what the both (the company and SHRM) can do. Also, we tossed around the ideas for fundraisers from selling pizzas and other stuff at the Patriot Center, and bar night (location to be determined).
Next, we discuss the points system. Attach in this e-mail is the point breakdown. Here's how to stay in SHRM:
Less than 25 pts in a semester - probation or expulsion
25 pts for the semester and 50 pts for the year - Continuing member (For Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors, you're eligible for been an officer for next year)
75 pts or more - Eligible for a SHRM chord (for people who are graduating this year). What this means is although you have 75 pts, you not automatically given the chord. We're going to have a board of directors (officers, coordinators, and Dr. Wolf) meeting in April and discuss who earned the chord.
This leads to our situation with SAM. I know everyone paid to join both SAM and SHRM. The money was not only for travel expenses, guest speakers, and food, but also to provide chords at the end of the school year for everyone. A couple of weeks ago, Dean Harvey shout down the idea, and wanted the chords for only the officers. Anthony and I disagree with that assessment and we both setup our own points system. Which leads me to this; if you want to earn points for both clubs, that is fine, that is personal goal. However, you have to deal with not only our clubs, but school, work, and/or any external factor. To make life easy on you, if you feel strongly about human resources, do come to SHRM meetings and conferences. If you don't like HR, but want to learn about leadership and innovation, go to SAM. Both Anthony and I are sorry about the situation of paying to both clubs, but we will say this: Thank you for your contribution and your money will not be wasted in our !respectfully!
Then, we discuss the chapter merit awards, which Karen will send an e-mail to everyone later on about what activities we're shooting for. If you want to volunteer for a SHRM activity, e-mail: Karen at karen.allen3@comcast.net. You have to November 9th to decide which activity you want. Then, I will ask for a group that involves more than 3 people in the activity to select one coordinator. Then, from these selected coordinators, the coordinators themselves select a head coordinator, who will give a progress report to the officers. There are two positions that are still open:
Morning coordinator- person who can attend all the NovaSHRM morning sessions. The next NovaSHRM meeting is on November 9th from 7:15 AM-10:30 AM. Since no one in our meeting can't come to the morning meetings, this is your chance if someone doesn't have school at that time and/or can get off work in the morning, or doesn't have work. You will get 10 pts to attend this meeting and 3 pts for being coordinator. I know its wishful thinking, but someone has this attribute this semester. This coordinator position is a first come, first basis, meaning the first e-mail who wants the position, will get it, hopefully.
Research Survey and Project- This is an excellent activity to know what companies are using and how they are successful. As of now, I am the only person on the name of this project. If I get 5 more e-mails who want to participate in the research survey, then I'll tell Karen the project will go on. So, if you want to take part, please reply to me if your interested.
Next, we discuss the HRGames, which dates have not been determine. If your in Dr. Wolf's HR class, you know she plays the Jeopardy board for review. That is exactly how the HRGames are structured, and we have to answer in a form of a question. If you don't have Dr. Wolf, it's simply Jeopardy and It's Academic together. It is a team game. The HRGames are also good prep guides to the HRCI exam, if your interested in HR. If your taking Dr. Wolf's HR class, go to page 606 and it gives most, if not all, a format on the HRCI exam and the HRGames. The problem is cost and if I have enough people interested, and then raise enough money, the HRGames should be a go. The first round of competition should be in around mid February, so we have plenty of time.
