For the first 75 minutes, Ken Yancey, former director of training and personnel for the Commonwealth of Virginia discuss labor/management relations in the public and private sectors. Ken handed out a book and booklets to describe management, union, and how to prevent unions in the company.
The last ten minutes, we follow up on last meeting's discussions:
Fundraisers and donations- On Nov. 20, SHRM members will be handing out VIC applications to customers who are interested. We have one member join, if anyone is interested, please contact us.
Community Service- Also on Nov. 20, the 17th Annual Help for the Homeless Walkathon happens in Washington DC. We will get more details about how to register later this week.
HRGames- I have one person who like to participate. If anyone is interested, please again, e-mail us if your interested. To know more about the HRGames, the schedule, and others, go to http://www.shrm.org for more details.
The SHRM activities table- Well no one has volunteer yet on anything. We heard a few people still confuse on certain activities. This weekend, we will post small, but detail descriptions of some of the activities. After we get the information posted, we will e-mail everyone about it and you can decide on two activities you like to do. In the next meeting, we hope to establish coordinators by then. The last day to choose is next Sunday at midnight in our e-mail account. We would like to advance our club, but with no one helping, there is no direction.
NovaSHRM Scholarship- As we mention, although the deadline has passed, no one from our school has applied for the scholarship. If you are interested, e-mail Tina at Tina_kobasa@sra.com tell her that your interested, and then fill our an application and essay and send it to NovaSHRM. Tina will give more details, and it must be done this week.
Newsletters- If you have the time, send an article or an argument with someone else and e-mail us. It could be any topic in HR you like, including foreign countries, subjects that doesn't associate with HR but does, anything. You can write by yourself, write with someone else, roundtable discussion, anything. The article must be due next Wednesday by 5 PM in our e-mail account.
Next meetings:
Next SHRM meeting- Nov. 30 at 4:30 PM. Room and Guest Speaker TBA (The reason is we hope to be reactivated by the Student Board, and we can get one of the bigger rooms at the Johnson Center, which is much better than the conference room at Enterprise Hall, and hopefully better attendance.

Mr. Karl Fischer, Senior Vice President, Compensation, Communications, and Work Environment, Marriott International Inc. is the guest speaker. If your interested of attending, please contact Steve Fuller at stevef@gwu.edu. This counts as meeting attendance in the merit points system.

SOM presents International opportunities for undergraduate students on Wednesday, Nov. 17 at the Johnson Center, Room D from 5 - 6:30 PM Please RSVP by email to somrsvp@gmu.edu
The next SAM meeting will be on Tuesday, November 16 at 5PM at Enterprise Hall, Room 017.
That was our meeting.
Just a reminder, we do not mind attending the meetings, but there are more opportunities than just attending. We want people to participate in our activities. These activities enhances what HR is by a company or a community. Also, we remind you that on the points system, attendance is only a fraction of the 25 or 50 points. A big deal is volunteering, community service, fundraisers, and local and national seminars and conferences provided by SHRM.
Also, if you want to give us feedback on what the club should improve, what were doing well, any questions and comments, feel free to do so on our e-mail, or talk to Paige or Tracy. Have a nice day.
