About BSAThe Black Student Alliance is an organization that promotes a better union between the African-American community as well as the George Mason University community. We are a support organization for other African-American based organizations as well as faculty and staff. Mission – Our mission is to serve as a unified voice for the black students, faculty and staff through which the concerns of the community can be addressed while enriching the cultural, intellectual and social life at George Mason University. Black Student Alliance is broken down into 5 different committees through which our mission will be accomplished: Academic & Student Affairs – The main purpose of the Academic & Student Affairs committee is to propose and implement academically related programs and services. (i.e. career counseling, minority job fairs, etc.)
History – The history committee documents all BSA events and other events relevant to the student life at George Mason. The history committee also helps Black History Month events along with the Office of Diversity Programs and Services and other organizations.
Outreach & Public Affairs – The Outreach & Public Affairs committee coordinates serve projects for the participation of the Black Student Alliance; they also assist with getting BSA’s name out into the communities for GMU, Fairfax and its surroundings.
Publications & Social – Plans activities centered on African-American students at George Mason to enhance their experience while at GMU; keeps the GMU public aware of BSA meetings, events, etc.
Fundraising and Financial Affairs – The main purpose of this committee is to help other committees reach their fundraising goals and also assist with the organization of all events that will increase BSA’s proceeds.
