Latin Minor

Banner Code: LATN

Web: latin.gmu.edu

The minor in Latin offers students the opportunity to develop and refine their knowledge of the Latin language by reading Ancient Roman literature. Students gain an understanding and appreciation of the literature, culture, and intellectual achievements of Roman antiquity that have contributed to the development of Western civilization.

A Latin minor complements majors in literature, language, history, philosophy, and the arts, all of which find their roots in classical antiquity. Majors in the natural and the social sciences are also strengthened by the historical perspective and the advanced training in language and terminology afforded by the minor in Latin.

This program of study is offered by the Department of Modern and Classical Languages .

For policies governing all minors, see the Academic Policies  chapter of this catalog.
